Dr. Sarah Pedersen

Owner & Equine Veterinarian

DVM, MSc, MChem, CVMRT, CVSMT, cVMA

Dr. Sarah Pedersen is an equine veterinarian with professional interests in movement, soundness, rehabilitation, biomechanics, and performance-centered care. Her approach combines evidence-based veterinary medicine with a practical understanding of the horse as both an athlete and an individual.

Sarah holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in addition to graduate science training, and has pursued extensive post-graduate education in rehabilitation, chiropractic care, and veterinary acupuncture. She holds certifications in veterinary spinal manipulative therapy (chiropractic), veterinary medical rehabilitation therapy, and veterinary medical acupuncture, with clinical interests including lameness evaluation, musculoskeletal function, rehabilitation planning, and collaborative management strategies that support both performance and long-term wellbeing.

In addition to her veterinary work, Sarah is an active horsewoman and competitor who understands firsthand the demands placed on performance horses, riders, and trainers. This perspective shapes her emphasis on thoughtful, individualized care that prioritizes communication, horse welfare, sustainable performance, and practical management strategies for each horse and rider combination.

Motion Equine Veterinary Services was built around a collaborative model of care that values the relationship between veterinarian, rider, trainer, owner, team of paraprofessionals and horse. Sarah works closely with clients and industry professionals to support horses across a variety of disciplines, with particular interest in the long-term soundness and comfort of the equine athlete.

Jenn Smart

RVT, CVMRT

Jenn brings a collaborative rider and coaching perspective to Motion Equine Veterinary Services, with professional interests in equine performance, rehabilitation support, rider development, and long-term horse welfare.

As an Equestrian Canada Competition Coach Specialist, Jenn works closely with horses and riders across a variety of disciplines, emphasizing thoughtful training, communication, and sustainable athletic development. Her experience in coaching and performance management provides valuable insight into the practical demands placed on both horse and rider throughout training and competition.

In addition to her coaching background, Jenn has pursued education in equine rehabilitation and massage therapy, with particular interest in supporting comfort, movement, recovery, and overall wellbeing in the equine athlete. Her collaborative approach complements Motion Equine’s emphasis on individualized care and multidisciplinary support for horses and riders.
